On Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 12:25 pm Oliver Eric Morken entered the world weighing 8 pounds 1.5 ounces and 21 inches long. From beginning of active labor to the end was just over 6 hours! He ended up having the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and 3 knots in the cord. Dr. Bell said she had never seen it before. He came out blue which was very concerning considering the cord problems, but he came out so fast that he was just very bruised. No real breathing problems to speak of. He did get blow-by oxygen because they weren't sure of his oxygen levels, but he quickly recovered. One of the first things Dr. Bell said (and we saw) when he came out was "look at his left foot!". Club foot again. Dr. Bell had also never seen a case of club foot before Piper and now she's seen 2 cases. At least we knew exactly what needed to be done this time around! We are so thankful to have our third healthy baby boy here!
Brand new! The first few moments after delivery are always the most precious moments. You've waited for many months to meet this new baby and you finally get to meet him and see him and touch him...using the outside of your body. =) Of course he looked just like the other boys, who look just like Matthew!
Matthew holding Oliver in the first hour of his life. Oliver still didn't have a diaper on at this point and Matthew was promptly peed and pooped on all at once. It was hilarious.
Finn meeting Oliver
Sarah and Oliver
The first time Finley and Piper saw Oliver. They weren't too sure at first.
Curiously looking at Oliver. When I told Finn that Oliver was out of my stomach, he said "Your stomach is fixed!" Believe me, Finley wasn't the only one rejoicing that my stomach was fixed!
My 3 little guys
Finley just loved holding him when we got home.
Piper still not sure, but he came around soon enough.
Sleeping soundly
Piper holding Oliver. It's hard to believe that 5 days prior to this Piper was my baby and looked so little, but now he looks so big! I was very sad about this for a while.
Finn talking to Oliver. Usually he would say, "Hi little fella".
A peaceful moment in the Boppy chair.
Grandpa and 3 of his grandsons.
Hanging out together
Piper giving Oliver a kiss
And then proudly smiling at how nice he was to Ollie
This was the day that Sarah had to leave, or if you asked Sarah, the day she GOT to leave. Sarah got a horrible sinus infection the day before Ollie was born and it stuck around for at least 2 weeks of her time here. She felt horrible and then had to take care of Finn and Piper a couple of days by herself. Not really the introduction you want to being 'stand-in mommy'. On the morning after we came home from the hospital, Ollie was crying, Finn was complaining about the breakfast Sarah had given him (something he usually loves) and Piper climbed on the table and started playing in the butter. Sarah looked up at me with a frantic look on her face and said, "This is NOT for me!". She handled it better than I would have though and got Piper cleaned up, got Finn to eat his breakfast and we moved on with the day. On Sarah's first day back at work I called to ask how her first day back to real work was and she said, "It was like vacation since I actually got to sit!". I told her I wasn't sure whether I should be insulted or just happy for her. Anyways, we had fun hanging out, talking, running in hurricane-force winds (to induce labor), dancing (to induce labor) and I came away with bruises from the wonderful acupressure she did on me (of course trying to induce labor). Thanks, Sarah for helping so much!
