Matthew went to a Gospel Coalition conference in Chicago the week that we had our big flood. We had 2 sump pumps going in the basement that were running almost nonstop and the water kept creeping up. It's weird to see the road that you use most often go under water and there's nothing you can do about it.
In this picture, you can barely see the green road sign in the middle. The rest of the curve signs are already under water.
Further around the corner from the street sign.
The turn to the right in this picture goes into our driveway. It was scary seeing all this water up so close to the house.
If you were to turn left out of our driveway, this is the other side of the road. We literally had just a few feet until this side was under water too.
At the crest. It just about touched in the middle of the road.
Our grain bins to the right and the 'ravine' between our house and the neighbor's house. It's usually very deep, but was completely filled with water.
The ravine again. The trees that you see in the picture aren't even close to the middle, most deep part of the ravine. The tops of those trees are covered with water. You can also see our neighbor's house. The white around it is the sandbags to form a dike. They had to work around the clock in shifts vacuuming out the water in their basement and they did it for days. It worked and they were able to keep all of the water out.
It was scary being there by myself with the boys, but we made it and the boys had fun watching all the water. Definitely an experience to remember.
