baby morken #2

Today we had our ultrasound to make sure baby is developing correctly, everything is on date and to confirm the gender prediction test. Baby has developed to 19 weeks 2 days (I am 19 weeks 3 days), has all body parts and we got positive confirmation on the gender prediction test when we saw the legs spread and a hand down there (the ultrasound tech said "all boy"). Looks like Finn's going to have a little brother around December 22, 2009!

We took Finn with us to the visit and he sat quietly on Matthew's lap through the exam watching and saying "baby" every once in a while. We got a few pictures of his profile and of him sucking his thumb. He was sucking his thumb though with his 4 little fingers sticking up. We also saw his little feet and legs kicking. I learned that the placenta is posterior to him which is why I have been feeling movement since the end of week 14. With Finn his placenta was anterior so I didn't feel any movement until almost week 18. This scares me since I felt a lot of painful kicks in the last 2 months with Finn and now there's absolutely no padding to soften that blow!

We are so thankful and blessed to have another healthy checkup. I can't wait to meet our second little boy!

"pee and peep"

Potty training. It's honestly what I have dreaded for quite some time especially hearing how long it takes boys to grasp the idea.

Here's how the story goes...about 3 weeks ago Finn was taking a bath and pooped in his bath water. It was the first time he saw his poop and realized that it came from him. It occurred to me that I take care of all of the gross stuff and he never has to deal with it. To make the long and drawn-out ordeal short, it freaked him out! Anytime it moved in the water he would get really scared. Several days later he started telling me that he either had to pee or he had just peed. That was in the video of him standing on his wagon, pointing down there and saying "pee". I decided that it was probably time to start some sort of training with him.

Monday, the 20th, I put the potty chair in the bathroom and started explaining where his pee and poop were supposed to go. It was a fight to get him to sit on the potty, but I was determined and he ended up relenting most of the time. I told our families what I was doing and the advice started pouring in (which I was very grateful for--I was totally blind as to where to start). My sister, Sarah (Aunt Deah) bought a book as a joke called "Toilet training in less than a day". Little did she know! I got the book on Tuesday, read it Tuesday night and went shopping for the supplies I would need on Wednesday when I was in town. Thursday was the day to start. I turned the phones off, kept the TV off and eliminated any other distractions as best as possible. He willingly peed in the potty 5 times in the morning and a little more reluctantly 5 times in the evening. He had 3 accidents throughout the day...1 of them was my fault for not putting a pull-up on him for his nap.

The training included making sure that Finn had on loose clothing on the bottom and no shirt on top so that he could see what was going on down there. Next I re-taught him where his pee and poop go. The book takes it a few steps further though and says to teach Finn what to do with the pee after he goes. So, after that first willing time, he removed his seat cushion and put it on the floor. He then pulled out the pot and dumped it in the toilet. He replaced the pot in his potty, put the cushion back on and flushed the toilet. After each step he got a special treat and tons of praise.

Fast forward 1 more day. This morning he peed in the potty willingly 3 times and took care of the pee himself. We had an ultrasound appointment this afternoon so he had another pull-up on for part of the afternoon, but after we got home the pull-up came off and he peed willingly 5 more times and actually pooped for the first time right before bed. I'm so proud of him for picking this up so fast. There will probably be setbacks, but I now know that he can do it. Yay Finley! More updates to come!

uffda!

Three people. Three people wearing clothes. Three people wearing clothes for 3 weeks...WITHOUT A WASHER! My washer broke a few weeks ago and Matthew wasn't able to get it fixed before he left for Sr. High camp. That left me with a weeks' worth of laundry before he left for camp. Then he got back from camp with wet and stinky clothes...still no washer and an extra weeks' worth from all 3 of us. Matthew took the washer in on Monday to get it fixed. On Thursday I couldn't take it anymore. I called the repair company to see what the hold up was. Apparently there was no hold up. It had been ready for days...probably since Monday afternoon...and they has just forgotten to call and tell us. AHHHHH! I should've made them do my laundry!

This is my mother's dream. She loves doing laundry. I wish she were here.

It makes me sick to look at it.

This is what the pile looked like after I sorted it. Turns out this is 11 loads of laundry...and I have an extra large capacity washer!

As a result of the laundry issue, Finn was stuck wearing a much-too-big long john's shirt (yes, long john's - it was getting down into the 40's at night) to bed. Here he is posing for the camera. I told him to hold up his hands, but he ended up searching for them for such a long time (never found them in the sleeves) that I just told him to stand still.

He was still trying to find his hands in this picture. We ended up rolling the sleeves a couple of times. In the middle of the night he woke up crying (he never does this) and when I went in to see what was wrong, he held up his hand to show me that the sleeve had come unrolled. I rolled it back up for him and he layed right back down and went to sleep again.

The next morning I got a couple of videos of him climbing on his wagon. He had climbed up a couple of times and tried to put his arms up and say "Tada!", but it wasn't working out this time. He ends up getting very camera shy and just standing there, which is still really cute.

Here he is standing on his wagon again, and apparently he pees because he points down there and says "pee". Doesn't he have a cute laugh...right before he almost falls?

brownie fun

Finn and I made brownies the other day and I gave him a spoon to lick. Boy did he love that! At first he just painted his lips with it and licked at it, but soon the whole spoon was in his mouth. Just thought these were cute pictures to share.

sr. high camp

Matthew spent last week at Sr. High camp. To break up the long week at home alone, Finn and I went to visit for a couple of days. We had a lot of fun...the most fun I've had at camp before. He loved seeing Daddy after being without him for a couple of days and they got to go down the big water slide together.

Getting ready to go in the water.

They started with just their feet. It was pretty cold.

But that was too cold for Finn so Daddy had to hold him for awhile longer.

Finally got up the nerve to get in the water and walk around.

Finn had been eying this water slide since the day we got there. This boy loves every kind of slide there is. He can spend hours at the park and never get tired of going down the slide. Add water and you are in for a long afternoon in the water. The kids were going down on tubes, but they went so fast that Matthew decided to just go down just sitting on the slide.

He could have just stood up and walked down the slide. He had to push them down every inch of that slide. It was so slow! When they went by me I saw Finn sucking on his finger just as calm as can be.

Finally they got to the bottom! Finley actually liked it, but I think that's just because it was a slide. It certainly wasn't for the thrill of the ride!

4th of july

We went out to the farm for lunch on the 4th. Here is Finn riding on Breeze, Kristen's horse.

He was a big boy and held on tight. Matthew walked next to the horse just to make sure he didn't fall off.

Kristen's boyfriend, Monty grilling for us. Yes, that's a yellow lace apron he's wearing. Doesn't seem to be bothering him much, but he wouldn't look at the camera for a picture.

geah and minny

These are the names that Finley and Mattea call each other. Most of Mattea's little friends call her Ttea just because the first part of her name is hard to say, but Finley can't make the 'T' sound yet, so it comes out Geah. Mattea usually substitutes her 'Fs' for an 'S' sound. Thankfully, she used an 'M' sound this time.

Danae and Mattea came over a couple nights ago and stayed pretty late while the guys were bailing hay. Finley got to stay up past 11 o'clock. Boy was he tired! They had a lot of fun though and it was so cute to hear them calling each other.

They loved playing in the sandbox, with the trucks in the yard and lastly the pool. They got in the pool at about 8 o'clock at night and it was still warm from the day. They ended up taking their baths in the pool. Finley did too much splashing though and Mattea got out. All in all they had a fun night that ended with them climbing up the back of the couch into the bay window and then counting to 3 and jumping off together down onto the couch that no longer had any cushions on it. I think they'll be great buddies pretty soon.
