time out

Today I was sitting on the couch and Finley walked right over to me and hit me on the hand. It didn't hurt, but we've been teaching him not to hit or kick or punch or slap or pinch...the list goes on. He knew he wasn't supposed to do it as soon as he did it because he put his head down. I took his hand said, "Finley, you know you're not supposed to hit Mommy". I was going to leave it at that and let him go on playing, but he pointed over his shoulder and said "Ess?". I thought he was pointing to his room to go play, but when I said "yes" in answer to his question he went to his time out spot and sat down.

I was very surprised and also relieved to know that he knew there was a consequence for his actions. On the other hand...maybe he's also telling me that time out isn't so bad!

baby #2

The reason for my hiatus from posting for the past couple of months is explained in the video below. We have a little one on the way and boy have I been feeling it! The nausea started at 5 weeks, stopped for a couple of days in week 7 and has been here ever since. I'm 14 weeks today and possibly starting to feel a little better for which I'm very thankful. Whenever I get tired and grouchy, Matthew always reminds me to blame Eve and not him. =)

We went in to see Dr. Bell in week 12 just to hear the heartbeat before we left for NC. Though the heart beat was too fast at first, she listened for awhile until it slowed down. All in all she said the baby sounded fine. You might be able to hear that she found the heartbeat first off, but then the baby moved away and she had to search for it a little. Towards the middle of the video you can hear it a lot better.

So most people would read about the fast heart rate and think GIRL right away; however, there is a handy, dandy little test you can take at home now that is 82% accurate and it said BOY! Notice the date on the picture. We got to take this test on our 8-year anniversary! I'm not putting a ton of stock into this test - I'll wait for the ultrasound, but it's still fun. And so starts the blogging on Baby Morken #2!

ab trip - may 15-25, 2009

Finley and I got to go to Atlantic Beach with my family in mid May. Sarah drove her car and Finn and I rode with her. On the way there we met up with my Mom and my Grandparents. We had a nice little reunion and a HUGE meal there. I ordered fried chicken and mashed potatoes. They gave me half a bird and 5 pounds of potatoes! It was wonderful!

Finley and Paka outside of the Farmer's Market Restaurant.

They had old tractors and wagons that the kids could sit on. Finley doesn't look very happy in this picture, but he was very excited to get to sit on the tractor...and he was very tired from our trips.

Bama and Paka reading Finley a book that they got him.

Looking at a magazine with Grandma "Mama".

Who did this to my child?

Finley loved lying on Bama's lap.

We were able to find a Popeye movie one night (an old favorite of Grandpa's) and here he is watching it. Look at how enthralled he is!

Finley at the aquarium at the beach.

Aunt Deah helping Finn sit on a giant frog.

Finley looking in the alligator's mouth.

The shark exhibit. There were some really big ones in there!

The biggest shark in there.
Finley's first taste of Beaufort's best ice cream...a family tradition each year.
Grandpa and Finley playing in the sand.

Grandpa would try and build a sandcastle and Finley would knock them all down.

Cool dude!

Grandpa and Finley going to wash off. Finley was pretty scared of the water at first.

The morning that Bama and Paka had to leave they came over to our apartment to say goodbye. As soon as she walked in the door, Finley and Chloe gave her hugs and climbed in her lap. It was a sweet moment.
Bama and Finley clapping.

Laughing...
Goodbye picture.

Bama and Chloe.

Just 2 beach bums relaxing in the sun. Loved Chloe's bathing suit.

Finley in another sand hole.

Becky and Chloe lounging.

Finley ended up loving the water slide. He would point to it and say "Ess?" over and over until you took him down.

Loving the water!

Chloe trying to walk with Becky.

Chloe and Jason.

Going down the slide for the first time. I was excited, but Finley has no expression even though he loved it.

Floating in the tube.

Chloe and Becky. Holly got Chloe a pink Beaufort shirt and Finley a blue Beaufort shirt. We tried to get a picture of them in their shirts, but neither one was cooperating.

Grandma and Grandpa got Finley this Tonka truck to play with on the beach since "every other little boy on the beach had one" =)

Grandma and Finley the night before we left. It wasn't such a sad time to leave since we knew we were going to be back in about 3 weeks.

I don't know this person. Holly actually went in the airport dressed like this! =)
Finn sleeping in Aunt Deah's car on the way to the beach. He was beat!

Jumping in the huge hole Grandpa made for him on the beach.

Holly was making faces at Finley trying to make him laugh. He loved it!
